Overview:

The imperial kilns in Suzhou, located in East China's Jiangsu province, gained widespread fame for the quality of the bricks it produced. Known as gold bricks, the high-quality building material was the product of good resources and a laborious manufacturing process.

In fact, during the early 15th century construction of the Forbidden City, the Ming dynasty government (1368-1644) turned to the small village of Lumu, on the outskirts of Suzhou, to act as the brick supplier. Locals had mastered advanced firing techniques and consequently aided in the construction of one of China's most celebrated landmarks.
