Chinese publishing giant Phoenix Publishing and Media Group was ranked ninth on the list of the 50 largest publishers in the world.

PPMG, the biggest publisher in China, climbed two places from last year's ranking.

The "Global 50" Ranking of the Publishing Industry was co-published by the French publishing trade magazine Livres Hebdo and Bookdao, Buchreport, Publishers' Weekly and PublishNews.

RELX Group (Reed Elsevier) and Thomson Reuters continued to occupy the top two places with respective annual operating revenues of $5.89 billion and $5.13 billion.
