Author of Flight of the Bumble Bee shares her inspiration for the book.

The reading party for the English version of Flight of the Bumble Bee was recently held by Phoenix Juvenile and Children's Publishing Ltd in Nanjing.

Huang Beijia, the book's author, shared her inspiration for creating the book. She had been considering writing the book for 30 years and finally finished it when she visited Huaxiba in Sichuan where the story takes place.

The author said that she expects the book to teach children the importance of knowledge and home education as well as the beauty of love and the power of dreams.

Nicky Harman, translator of the English version, was impressed by the numerous pieces of music mentioned in the novel, including classical piano music, western opera, and Chinese opera.

Set during the eight-year Chinese War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, the book depicts solidarity in the rear area and the virtue of the Chinese people and showcases how children were inspired to embark on the road to revolution.

The novel has also been published in the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Vietnam, India, and Lebanon.

Huang started publishing literature in 1973 and is the former vice-chairwoman of the Jiangsu Writers Association.

In 2020, she was nominated for the Hans Christian Andersen Award, and this year she was nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, which was established to commemorate the Swedish children's writer Astrid Lindgren.
