The Kazakh version of From Beginning of Life was launched on April 20 at the Eurasian Book Fair 2023, which was held in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan, from April 19 to 23.

Vice-president of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University in Kazakhstan believes that literature is an important bond linking China and Kazakhstan and that the publishing of the novel will teach people in Kazakhstan more about China.

He noted that the university also offers a course on Chinese literature and the newly-published novel will be introduced to students.

Hu Xuewen, author of From Beginning of Life, spent eight years writing the novel, which offers a broad depiction of life in China from late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) to nowadays.

Centering on an elderly woman who delivered more than 12,000 babies, the book builds a magnificent and vast literary world that involves the rituals, morals, bloodlines and localities of rural society in China.

The novel is expected to be published in 14 languages, including English, German, and French. The English and Kazakh versions are available now, while other language versions will be published soon.
