Chinese version of 'History of Human Civilization' makes world debut in London

Updated: 2016-05-03

History of Human Civilization, initiated by UNESCO in 1950, has been a pioneering work in human cultural and academic history. The first version of six volumes was published in 1963 in six languages. In 1980, UNESCO started revision work and invited a group of Chinese scholars to take part in the project. After 30 years, the new version was completed in 2008. The now seven-volume collection, recording the history from the origins of human civilization to the end of 20th century in 4,500 pages, is considered a masterpiece of research achievements of scholars from all over the world.

Authorized by UNESCO, Yilin Press affiliated to PPM took charge of publishing the Chinese version of History of Human Civilization in 2009. In order to ensure the quality of the book, the press formed a team of more than 50 world history experts and translators to compile the work. It also assigned seven senior editors to serve as copy editors for each volume. With six years of collaboration work, the seven-volume Chinese version was published in 2015.

After the launch ceremony, PPM gave a set of the Chinese version of History of Human Civilization to the British Library as a gift.
