A South Korean delegation headed by Ms. Ann Jung, president of copyright trading agency Linking-Asia International Cultural Development Inc, and Mr. Yeon Jun Hyug, publisher of Wisdomhouse Publishing Co, visited Phoenix Publishing and Media Inc (PPM) in Nanjing from May 24 to 26.

During the three-day visit, the guests looked into books at six publishing houses under PPM. Both sides exchanged ideas on copyright trade and joint-publishing in a bid to pave the way for further cooperation.

The guests showed interest in importing books on calligraphy, arts and Chinese literature as well as children’s picture books, and also recommended high-quality South Korean books to the Chinese publishing giant.

When they came to Yilin Press, a translation publishing house under PPM, its directors expressed the hope to continue cooperation with the South Korean partners. The press purchased the copyright of Frustration Trains Me and Hope Stimulates Me, the autobiography of South Korea president Park Geun-hye from Wisdomhouse Publishing in 2013. Its Chinese copy has been a bestseller in recent years, with total sales volume exceeding 1 million.

When the three-day visit finished, the guests said they were impressed by the Chinese publishing industry and the humanistic and philosophical masterpieces published by PPM.

Mr. She Jiangtao, vice-president of PPM, briefed the guests about the company’s publishing strategy and hoped that the copyright trade fair between PPM and South Korean publishers in September can contribute to more cultural and publishing cooperation between the two countries in the future.
