Updated: 2016-07-11

Manica K. Musil is a multi-talented artist boasting skills in design, writing, architecture and illustration.

Her collection of children's fabric picture books, published by Jiangsu Fine Art Publishing, integrates design, storytelling and craftwork. Titles include The Naughty Pigs, The Magic Shell, Cecilia The Goat and Who Drank All the Water.

Musil's multiple identities contribute to her unique creative style, which features precise knitting, clever layouts, vivid cartoon figures and bright colors.

Musil makes fabric works for her books.

The Slovenian-born author and illustrator visited China in July and shared her experiences and discuss her creative process with her readers. The original fabric works, which the books are based on, were displayed at the Nanjing University of the Arts from July 8 to 10. She also attended the sixth Jiangsu Book Fair in Yangzhou on July 10, where her Cloth-like Picture Story Book Series was officially released.

Musil believes books are the biggest treasure which parents can give to their children. In her message to her Chinese readers, she encourages them to read as much as them can and stay a child in their hearts as long as they are able.

In 2016, Musil won two gold medals at the 3x3 Contemporary Illustration Magazine Awards held in New York.
