The Jiangsu-based publishing giant Phoenix Publishing and Media Group (PPMG) brought over 150 book titles to Algiers International Book Fair (SILA) in Algeria from Oct 29 to Nov 10, the largest exhibition dedicated to literature in the Arab world.
Targeted and detailed planning helped PPMG titles receive warm response at the exhibition.
Because of My Dad, a children's book published under PPMG's subsidiary, Phoenix Juvenile and Children's Publishing Ltd, inked a deal at the exhibition to export the title to Middle Eastern readers.
Wang Yixuan, vice president of PPMG, delivered a keynote speech and discussed his wishes of enhancing mutual understanding and cultural exchanges between China and the Arab world and of establishing an inter-translation channel and bring more classical works to the two sets of readers.
The PPMG delegation also visited the National Library of Algeria, the largest of its kind in both Algeria and Africa.
More than 2,500 titles in Mandarin Chinese and no less than 7,500 works translated into Arabic and French were displayed at the event. Their themes are related to ancient Chinese culture, literature and children's books. Six Chinese authors, including Nobel laureate Mo Yan, participated in the event.
The exhibition is part of an effort to "strengthen historical China-Algerian ties". This year the two nations are celebrating their 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
