Contract signing ceremony for the English and Hindi editions of I want to be a Good Girl is held at the New Delhi World Book Fair, which kicked off on Jan 4 and will run until Jan 12.

Jiangsu-based Phoenix Juvenile and Children's Publishing and India-based GBD Books signed a joint publication contract for the English and Hindi editions of I want to be a Good Girl at the New Delhi World Book Fair (NDWBF) in New Delhi, capital of India, on Jan 4 local time.

The book features the day-to-day life of Chinese children and tells stories of them growing up. The author, Huang Beijia, is the only Chinese writer to have been nominated for the 2020 Hans Christian Andersen Award, the world's highest recognition for creators of children's books.

The ceremony included a promotional video for I want to be a Good Girl and Huang was introduced as a "national treasure" by Yu Jingxiang, deputy editor-in-chief of Phoenix Juvenile and Children's Publishing.

Xie Hong, editor-in-chief of the publishing company, also described Huang as a symbolic figure in children's literature. Her writing has entertained and enlightened generations of children.

Huang's awarding-winning books have sparked discussions among readers of all ages as well as studies in China's children's literature publication industry. They are also gaining popularity in the global market and have become one of the key projects under the global business development of Phoenix Publishing & Media Group (PPMG), parent group of the publisher.

Goyal, president of India-based GBD Books, expresses his hopes for the English and Hindi editions of I want to be a Good Girl on Jan 4.

Goyal, president of GBD Books, one of the leading suppliers of books to schools and college libraries in India, said children's literature transcends national borders, and GBD Books has imported and published many PPMG publications, including Bronze and Sunflower, the magnum opus of Hans Christian Andersen award winner Cao Wenxuan, and Flight of the Bumble Bee, Hung's new book.

Goyal believes the first English edition of I want to be a Good Girl has the chance spread stories of Chinese children to their peers in India and strengthen communication between the two countries. The book has so far been exported to nine countries, including France, Switzerland, South Korea, and Vietnam.

Wang Yixuan, vice chairman and vice president of PPMG, and Priyadarsi Mukherji, professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University and famous sinologist, attended the signing ceremony on Jan 4.
