Tunnel construction in China began developing rapidly after the high-speed railway became an icon of China.

The longest tunnel in Central Asia – the Uzbekistan Kamchik Tunnel, which was built by China Railway Engineering Group Ltd, shows that tunnel construction has turned into yet another calling card for China.

The Sichuan-Tibet Railway tested the technical limits and equipment of tunnel builders in China, as numerous tunnels with each over 1,000 meters in length had to be built along the railway, making up close to 82 percent of the total length of the railway.
