The series books portray 16 children or children's groups and tell their touching stories about great dreams and their sublime faith.

Picture books created in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China have been published in six countries, namely, the United Kingdom, Iran, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, Saudi Arabia and Nepal.

Gholamreza Nuei, director of the International Department of Iran's Ministry of Cultural Guidance, lauded the project.

"These picture books depict brave, intelligent and persistent Chinese children in the country's different periods, which deserves to be learnt by other countries' children," Nuei said.

Nuei also recommended the books to the country's publishing agency.

The series books, published by the Phoenix Juvenile and Children's Publishing Ltd, a branch of Phoenix Publishing and Media Inc (PPM), portray 16 children or children's groups and tell their touching stories about great dreams and their sublime faith.

This series looks into representative individuals and groups of children in different historical periods, such as the founding period of the CPC, the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45), the War of Liberation (1946-49), the early period of the People's Republic of China (PRC), the peaceful period of socialist construction, the reform and opening up period, as well as the new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics. It depicts how these young soldiers and heroes develop from innocent and unsure kids into mature, brave, and strong individuals that have the courage to fight and have faith in the future. These touching stories combine to illustrate a cast of memorable characters, while also telling the history of modern China.

This series incorporates heartwarming stories with the historic achievements of the Chinese people led by the CPC and the CPC's care for children. It enables young readers to feel the strength and warmth of the CPC, as well as the optimistic, fearless, and selfless nationalistic spirit of those heroic children and teenagers.

In addition, the publishing agency plans to organize competitions on picture books and in calligraphy and writing, as well as exhibitions of the series in Yan'an, Tongling, Taian, Xuzhou and Xuancheng to greet the CPC's anniversary.

The following books are part of the series:

A Handful of Highland Barley Grains. The protagonist of this story is based on the youngest female Red Army soldier during the Long March. As a publicity staff member, she is a barrel of laughs to the army. She will stand in the wind or on the roadside to sing songs or dance to cheer on other soldiers, makes herself adored by the soldiers. For example, when crossing the grassland, soldiers offered to carry her on the back. With such help, she crossed snowy mountains and grasslands, completing the 25,000-mile Long March. Through the touching story of this little Red Army soldier, the book explores the profound spirit of the Long March.

Glittering Square. This book is based on the real historical event of many students voluntarily signing up to participate in the renovation of Tian'anmen Square on the eve of the Founding Ceremony. Through the depiction of the students' work in the renovation, the book details the wonderful moments, touching scenes, and unforgettable experiences in the preparation of the Founding Ceremony. It reveals the outstanding achievements and great significance of the CPC in establishing the new China, as well as the deep feelings between the CPC and the people.

The Best Role Model. Based on the science and tech activities of teenagers in the 1950s and 1960s, the story depicts how hard they worked to invent scientific and technological products, portraying a group of teenagers who loved science and studied hard during the peaceful period of socialist construction.

The City of the Future. Set in Shenzhen, the frontline of reform and opening up in China, this book focuses on children's participation in designing a "child-friendly" city in the new era. As reform and opening up has benefited the city, more and more inspiring stories are happening in this "city of the future".

Tree-planters on the Saihanba Plain. This story is about three generations of forest guardians working hard on the Saihanba Plain. By depicting their unremitting efforts, the book promotes the Saihanba Plain spirit of "faithfulness, diligence, pragmatism, and green development," conveying the green development idea of "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets."

Eye of Heaven. This story is about the world's largest single-aperture radio telescope, known as the FAST(Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope) or "Eye of Heaven". From the perspective of children, this great national project demonstrates China's pioneering spirit, comprehensive strength, independent innovation capability, and national aspiration to become a world-class country.
