BolognaBookPlus (BBPlus), the general trade arm of the acclaimed Bologna Children's Book Fair, is delighted to share details of its Dante 700 event, marking 700 years since the writer's death. Celebrating Dante and his global contemporary greats is a free digital event and broadcasted online at 6:30pm (CET), Wednesday 16 June 2021, and remains available afterwards on demand.

Considered one of Italy's greatest poets and the forefather of the Italian language, Dante's writing is amongst the greatest works in medieval European literature. Bologna - home to the world's oldest university where he studied - welcomes leading specialists from academia and publishing to discuss the writer's work in translation and his ongoing influence today.

Hosted by broadcaster Georgina Godwin, the eminent speakers are: Dr Jacob Blakesley, Associate Professor in Comparative Literature and Literary Translation and Co-Director of the Centre for Dante Studies at the University of Leeds; Dr Daniel Newman, Professor in Modern Languages and Cultures at Durham University; and Yao Yi, editorial lead for international literature at Yilin Press, one of the most prestigious literary publishers in China. Yao is editor of the 700th Anniversary Illustrated Collection of The Divine Comedy in China.
