The first drama space for teenagers in Nanjing – Drama Box – opened at the Phoenix International Book Mall on Oct 7.

The drama space was established by the Phoenix International Book Mall and Phoenix Red Hat, a professional teenager troupe in Nanjing.

At the opening ceremony, participants watched a live video of drama Young Jane Eyre, which was performed by actors from Phoenix Red Hat, after Zhou Runzhe, who plays Jane Eyre, shared her monologue from the drama.

In addition, actors from Phoenix Red Hat performed a street dance and Peking Opera and sang songs at the ceremony.

Zhu Na, director of Phoenix Red Hat, said that the troupe's creation will focus more on traditional Chinese culture and the school and family lives of Chinese teenagers.

She also expressed hope that Drama Box will familiarize more teenagers with drama and help them learn to think and love life.

Drama Box will offer courses on drama in education and children's creativity, drama performance, and rock and roll.

In 2023, the drama Young Jane Eyre will embark on a national tour.

Zhang Chi, producer of Phoenix Red Hat and marketing manager of the Phoenix International Book Mall, believes that teenage drama may help the transformation and upgrading of brick-and-mortar bookstores.

Zhang added that producing dramas is a good way to take advantage of book malls, build cultural brands, and attract more regular readers to book malls.
