The English version of China's Changes in the Eyes of A European Sinologist by Luc Kwanten premiered at the 29th Beijing International Book Fair in Beijing on June 16.
The book's author Luc Kwanten is a sinologist in Belgium and a scholar of tangutology. He is also the founder of Big Apple Agency, Inc. which enjoys a strong reputation in the publishing industry.
In the book, Kwanten talks about his connection with China and the great changes in the country in terms of economy, society, and people's wellbeing based on his 40 years of living in the country.
Kwanten loves China and has devoted decades to promoting cultural exchange between China and the West, according to Chen Lili, wife of Luc Kwanten and president of Big Apple Agency, Inc.
Yu Tao, deputy head of China International Communications Group, believes that the book is a useful resource for foreigners to better understand China and creates a new model for Chinese books to go global.
Zhang Chaoyang, chairman of Phoenix Publishing and Media Group, spoke highly of the book and holds that the book is a major achievement in promoting Chinese culture and cultural exchanges and plays an active role in advancing mutual learning between civilizations and people-to-people exchanges.
Hottat Sophie, a representative from the embassy of Belgium in China, praised the book's publication as a consolidation of cultural exchanges between China and Belgium. She also expects that in addition to Belgians living in China writing about China, Chinese people living in Belgium should also tell their stories to the world.
Christopher Robyn, executive editor-in-chief of Long River Press and editor of the book's English edition, said via video that he feels honored to be part of the book's publication and expects it to gain many readers around the world.
The Chinese version was published in late 2022 by Yilin Press and the English version was published by Long River Press.
