Phoenix Vocational Education Books, a subsidiary of Chinese publishing giant Phoenix Publishing & Media Group, hosted a promotion event for the book about furniture in the style of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) on March 12 during the 2024 London Book Fair.
This event marks PPMG's first activity at LBF. The event aims to use books to promote Chinese traditional furniture culture to the world and showcase the cultural essence and craftsmanship of Ming Dynasty-style furniture.
At the book fair, the author, Qiao Zilong, a scholar of Ming Dynasty-style furniture and a designer of gardens and ancient architecture, conducted a book sharing session.
He pointed out that the Ming Dynasty-style furniture culture is important to China's outstanding traditional culture. It also enjoys an excellent reputation in the world furniture system and profoundly influences modern furniture design.

The book incorporates mortise and tenon joints in its binding design, featuring production drawings, line drawings, and ink paintings of 42 classic Ming Dynasty-style furniture pieces. It is arranged in four sections, "round, unfold, square, and guard", aiming to systematically present the Ming Dynasty-style furniture production process: conceptualization and drawing before production, techniques and craftsmanship during production, and the aesthetic and elegance after production.
Qiao also presented his ink paintings of Ming Dynasty-style furniture and models of tables with mortise and tenon structures, attracting many international publishers and cultural enthusiasts. They expressed strong interest in the exquisite craftsmanship of Chinese traditional furniture and engaged in discussions with Qiao regarding the design and production.
In recent years, Phoenix Vocational Education Books has been committed to promoting the spirit of craftsmanship, focusing on the inheritance and development of traditional Chinese furniture making techniques, and publishing a series of works on Ming Dynasty-style furniture research by Qiao, filling the gap in the field of Ming Dynasty-style furniture research and providing a relatively complete teaching system and solutions for contemporary Ming Dynasty-style furniture design and production.
