Jade: A Window into Chinese Civilization from the Palace Museum.

A signing ceremony for the book titled Jade: A Window into Chinese Civilization from the Palace Museum was held at the 2026 London Book Fair in the United Kingdom on March 10.

Jade stands as a unique cultural symbol of Chinese civilization, with the Palace Museum in Beijing housing the world's most comprehensive and rich collection of jade artifacts. These exquisite pieces embody the aesthetic and spiritual core of the Chinese nation, spanning thousands of years.

Authored by Xu Lin, director of the Jade Culture Research Institute at the Palace Museum, the book traces the evolution of Chinese jade culture from the Neolithic period to the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911).

It vividly interprets the gentle yet resilient national spirit inherent in jade culture, serving as a model for the international dissemination of China's rich traditional heritage.

Varun Jain, publisher at India's Motilal Banarsidass, participated via video link and expressed strong support for the collaboration. He noted that MLBD, with over a century of dedication to Indian studies and cultural heritage publishing, is committed to spreading the wisdom of ancient civilizations.

According to Varun, the Chinese jade culture showcased in the book closely aligns with India's reverence for sacred gems and exquisite craftsmanship. The book's craftsmanship and research spirit also resonate strongly with the publishing house's philosophy, he noted.

With China and India being two civilizations deeply connected by history and tradition, the Hindi edition is expected to become a vital link in cultural exchange, allowing more Indian readers to appreciate the profound heritage of Chinese jade culture.
