As the 63rd Bologna Children's Book Fair opened in Italy on April 13, Phoenix Juvenile and Children's Publishing, based in East China's Jiangsu province, hosted a multilingual exchange meeting at the China Pavilion to promote its published book, King of the Milu Deer.
Spotlighting the artistic expression of China's ecological civilization, this event gathered domestic and international experts from the publishing and cultural sectors to discuss the creation and international communication of eco-themed children's books.

He highlighted China's commitment to ecological conservation and the importance of telling compelling green stories that children can understand and enjoy. The book focuses on the unique Chinese species, the Milu deer, set in the Jiangsu Dafeng Milu Deer National Nature Reserve, celebrating nature's power and instilling the courage of life and the significance of ecological conservation in young readers, he said.
Author Shen Xiwu underscored the significance of documenting the Milu deer's lives, inspired by his visits to the reserve, where the animals thrive harmoniously alongside locals.
Illustrator Li Xiaoguang chose woodblock printing to match the story's raw power and vitality, using layered colors for a rich visual effect. A demonstration video of the printing process captivated the audience.
